The Narrative: Context & Takeaways

Summer shows broad growth in June – with large nonprofits and disaster relief organizations seeing the biggest leaps in giving.

June marked fiscal year-end for many nonprofits, and the month brought an influx of weather-related emergencies and rapid-response efforts, from an earthquake in Venezuela to Tropical Storm Arthur to a derecho and severe weather hitting a major portion of the United States mid-month.

Fundraising across sectors showed strength in June, with average total revenue up 38% and average total gifts up 30% YOY. These increases helped drive more growth in YTD revenue, bringing nonprofits overall to +6% growth over 2025. After the early months of the year brought a great deal of uncertainty around tariffs and economic volatility, we may be seeing an increase in confidence from donors about their ability to give in 2026.

The greatest growth in June can be attributed to large organizations, which saw an incredible +74% growth in revenue over June 2025. And the surge in rapid-response fundraising to support those impacted by earthquakes and storms this month appears to have powered incredible growth for the Disaster and International Relief sector, driving +82% growth in total revenue and +61% growth in total gifts. As we continue to optimize our Nonprofit Trends dashboard to give organizations the clearest look at the giving landscape through benchmarks and results, we’re excited to share that you can see some new data views in this month’s dashboard below! This month, we’re featuring a few new charts showing a viewpoint into Sustainer Benchmarks to offer a clearer look into this important, growing revenue stream for nonprofits. Our Average Sustainer Revenue chart below reflects steady YOY growth every month in 2026, with sustainer revenue up +16% YOY in June and YTD sustainer revenue +10% over 2025. We’re also seeing consistent growth in new sustainers each month in 2026, with new sustainers up +7% in June YOY. As nonprofits pay more attention to cultivating audiences and upgrading sustainers to add a solid and reliable foundation to their fundraising program, and test new tools and technology optimized to increase sustainer conversions, our data is showing that those efforts are paying off over the past two years.

Our Methodology

The results displayed are a view of more than 60 nonprofits across a variety of sectors. We have taken the metrics from these nonprofits and created averages for each of the KPIs so that nonprofits can easily see how their results compare. All fundraising metrics encompass all digital channels – including but not limited to email, SMS, advertising, and web. Each metric is broken down by nonprofit size, defined by the size of the active email file.

  • Large: sending to 300,000 + unique emails in a month
  • Medium: sending to 100,000-299,999 unique emails in a month
  • Small: sending to less than 100,000 unique emails in a month

These metrics have excluded donors and donations more than $1,000 – often defined as mid-level – as well as monthly donors and donations.
